Day 4 - Rain and wind and glaciers at 10 PM.

  • Through the driving rain. A waterfall indicates the direction of the wind.
  • Hard work along the ring road - This is the place where the rocks get piled.
  • There is a story behind these piles and it involves a tragic flood and good luck if you neatly pile rocks...

Looking for Glaciers

(and seeing none thanks to the rain) we camp at Skaftafell National Park. With camp set up we go for a 10 PM hike between rain showers and see our first  continental  glacier.

  • Just a small tongue of the great Vatnajökull Ice Cap.
  • Andrea, dressed for the occasion, surveys the melt pond at the glacier terminus.
