Day 10 - a walk around Húsavík then to Krafla

  • The Icelandic Phallological Museum. You really don't need to see this.
  • Many of the wood houses in Iceland have been covered in corrugated steel.
  • In this case the sides of the house exposed to the real weather of winter are covered in steel. The original wood remains on the less exposed sides.
  • Every settlement of any size has a church, sometimes more than one. The larger towns and cities have more elaborate and often architecturally unique churches.

The Mývatn basin - traveling along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Húsavík had been foggy, now the weather turns to wind and rain.

  • Google Earth - North Central Iceland showing Húsavík and to the south, Krafla and Lake Mývatn.
  • Wet again, we camp. This is the upper part of the campground. Even though they've had the good sense to bring circus tents to cook and eat in, we camp away from the organized tours.
